What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi is a traditional Chinese martial art that is often practiced for its health benefits. It is characterized by slow, fluid movements and deep breathing.

The practice involves a series of movements that are performed in a specific order, often called a "form." These movements are typically gentle and graceful, and they involve various techniques such as shifting weight, turning, and stretching.

Tai Chi is often described as "meditation in motion" because it requires a high level of focus and concentration. It is believed to promote relaxation, improve balance and coordination, and increase strength and flexibility. It is also thought to have benefits for stress management and overall well-being.

Tai Chi is typically taught in group classes, but it can also be practiced on one's own. It can be modified to accommodate people of different ages and fitness levels, making it suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

What is Qigong?

Qigong is a traditional Chinese practice that involves physical movements, breathing techniques, and meditation. It is often translated as "energy cultivation" or "life energy cultivation," and it is believed to help improve physical and mental well-being.

Like Tai Chi, Qigong involves slow, gentle movements that are typically performed in a specific order. The movements may include stretches, twists, and turns, and they are often accompanied by deep breathing and relaxation techniques. Some Qigong practices also involve visualization or the use of sound to help cultivate and balance the body's qi, or life energy.

Qigong is often described as a form of moving meditation, and it is believed to have a number of benefits, including improved flexibility and balance, stress reduction, and increased energy and vitality. It is typically taught in group classes, but it can also be practiced on one's own. It can be modified to accommodate people of different ages and fitness levels, making it suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

What are the benefits of practicing Tai Chi and Qigong?

It's important to note that while Tai Chi and Qigong are generally considered safe practices, it is always a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new exercise program.

Who is hosting the Challenge?

My name is David Burch.  I’m a former Information Technology Professional, turned certified Tai Chi & Qigong Instructor.

In midlife, I encountered two healing crises: First, my liver shut down. A few years later, I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, formerly known as End Stage Renal Failure.  Striving to improve my health, I rediscovered Qigong and I’ve been practicing daily now for well over 13 years.

I have attended over 500 hours of in-person, intensive training in Qigong and Tai Chi, after which I became a Certified Teacher of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi.

I have found Tai Chi and Qigong to be the most simple and profound means available to combat stress and help the body heal.

I hope you will join me in the challenge where I share some of my personal favorites.

28 day challenge

I really enjoyed the challenge. I appreciated how the instructions were broken down in simple steps making it easier to practice. I look forward to taking advantage of the instructions and practice sessions that I saved to my PC to get more familiar with the movements. I plan to continue making this a part of my day in the future. Thanks, David!
